Hi. I’m an independent Texas-based reporter and editor. I mostly write longform narrative and investigative stories about health care—particularly issues of access, the people without, and the policy decisions responsible. I’ve reported on reproductive health care for years, investigating how state leaders dismantled the safety net here long before Roe v. Wade was overturned, leaving many without access to contraception, maternity care, or abortion.
My reporting has appeared in The Washington Post Magazine, Slate, Reveal, The Atlantic, Texas Monthly, The Texas Observer, National Journal, and elsewhere. In 2020, I won a Sigma Delta Chi Award for public service magazine journalism from the Society of Professional Journalists for a series on Texas’ rural health care crisis. An investigation I co-authored into deaths in Texas jails won a John Bartlow Martin Award, a SPJ Sigma Delta Chi Award for magazine investigative reporting, and was a finalist for a National Magazine Award in 2022.
